What is Search Engine Optimisation?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of making your website rank highly in the search engines (in the free area) on keyword searches relevant to your business to increase the amount of qualified traffic to your website over time.

While often considered more an ‘art form’ than a ‘science’, there are techniques and processes that are proven to work. These activities focus on two areas:

a) On-Page Optimisation. This includes making sure the content of the site focuses on the keywords you would like to rank on. It includes optimising all areas that Google looks at including meta-tags, h1 tags, keyword density, site structure, load speed etc.

b) Off-Page Optimisation. Primarily building links TO your site from other relevant websites including business directories, portals, information sites and related businesses (but not competitors).

In simple terms, Google ranks websites by analysing both those areas – firstly, it looks at which websites have the ‘keyword phrase’ in their content and then ranks those sites in order of popularity (i.e. Google looks at the number and relevancy of the number of external sites linking TO the website). Google considers a link from a website to a particular site (say Site B) as a ‘vote’ for Site B. The sites with the most ‘votes’ wins... and appears on the first page of the search results.

Six Month Structured SEO Program

We offer a comprehensive search engine optimisation service that includes link building:

1. Define goals of program & select keywords

a) identify and analyse high ranking competitors’ sites using SEO software – i.e. why are they ranking highly?
b) select keywords using online tools (looking for high search frequency with ‘business’ focus)
c) email our choices to client and discuss by phone

2. Run “current status” report on keywords and website

a) identify where your site is currently ranking on the chosen keywords
b) set-up Google Analytics & provide client access
c) identify current site traffic levels

3. Complete “on page” changes to front page of site

We then move to actually ‘optimising’ (changing) your site. We cover a very wide range of on-page factors including creating appropriate meta tags, coding semantic mark-up (to tell Google what is a heading, subheading etc), re-write the entire home page content and include 5 chosen keywords in text with appropriate density (i.e. sufficient number of times to please Google).

Importantly, we use the results of the competitor analysis (see point 1) to write the content. We will focus on including the keywords the optimum number of times, in the right positions and with the correct mark-up to rank highly in Google.

4. Link Building

During this phase of the program, we will build links TO your site from other relevant websites including business directories, portals, information sites and related businesses (but not competitors).

Google considers links from other websites to a particular site (say Site B) as a ‘vote’ for Site B. The sites with the most ‘votes’ appear on the first page of the search results.

The aim is to build the PageRank of your site, so that if all other things are equal (e.g. all competing sites have keywords on their content), then Google will consider your site to be more popular and rank it ahead of the competition.

How much does an SEO program cost?

The amount of work involved to achieve a first page ranking will vary for each site and depend on the competitiveness of the industry, the age of the domain, current site content, existing backlinks etc. Consequently, it’s difficult to list a ‘set fee’ for SEO. In fact, we think you should be wary of any firm that advertises a flat rate for all businesses.

Having said that, you’re probably thinking, ‘Ok, but can you give us an indication of the price?’. Well, our entry-level six month SEO program is $2310 incl. GST. Additional fees apply where more extensive work is required such as extra content writing, link building and article submission to blogs.
